First XI confirmed as Division 1
Champions |
September 2005 |
|
|
Winslow completed their most successful season for many years after the First XI were crowned champions of Division 2 of the Four Counties Cricket League, with the Second XI also gaining promotion by finishing in second place in Division 5.
The First XI, led by skipper Pete Gibbard secured first place by completing a comfortable victory at home to
Edlesborough, winning by 180 runs. Centuries from Jamie Litherland (120 not out) and Glyn Davies (105) took the Winslow total to 272 for 4 (and in doing so, the pair created a new third wicket partnership of 228, breaking the previous record of 175 that has stood since
1989).
In reply, Edlesborough were bowled out for just 92 with Johno Waugh taking another 4 wickets to confirm him as the Division's leading wicket taker, ending up with 33 wickets - a fantastic achievement.
Glyn Davies finished third in the list of Division 2's run scorers, finishing with a total of 547 runs at an average of 45.58, and Iain Herbertson finished in the top 5 list of
all-rounders.
With Markyate being expelled from Division 5 in the week leading up to the last day of league fixtures, the Second XI had no game and their destiny was in other teams hands. Unfortunately for Winslow, Milton Bryan beat Wing to take top spot, but led by skipper Dave Marshall, the Second XI had an excellent season to gain promotion into Division 4.
Paul Stolworthy completed a hat-trick of statistics by finishing second, third and first in the Divisions list of Batsmen, Bowlers and
All-rounders respectively.
This has been a fantastic season for the Club that has seen both League sides fully deserve to gain
promotion, in addition to the Midweek side's Cup
win in July.
|
|
Promotion Double ! |
August 2005 |
|
|
|
With one week of the League schedule to
go, both the First and Second Saturday sides have secured promotion, to
divisions one and four respectively.
The First team won by 5 wickets away to
Olney, whilst the Second team won at home to Eaton Bray by 51 runs, in
what were both 2nd vs 3rd place matches that both went Winslow's way.
Next week, the first team are at home to
Edlesborough, whilst the Second team are away to Markyate, with the
possibility still remaining of both Winslow sides being winners of their
respective divisions.

|
Midweek Side win George Blow Cup Final |
July 2005 |
|
|
|
Winslow Town Cricket Club have won the George Blow Cup by beating Maids Moreton in a closely
contested Final on Friday 8th July, at Marsh Gibbon.
Set a total of 112 by Maids Moreton, Winslow reached their target on the first ball of the final over, with James Gaskins top scoring with an excellent 45.
A full match report can be found here.
A fine achievement by a youthful Winslow midweek side.

Winslow Under 11's Win Brill 6-a-side
Tournament |
June 2005 |
|
|
|
Winslow under 11’s entered two teams this year in the Brill tournament on 12th June 2005.
The "A" team did very well and only lost two games, one of which was against Winslow
"B", and the other being the first game of the day against Bledlow.
The "B" team went one better and one all five of their league games and had already qualified for the final when they had to play Winslow
"A" in the final pool game. Much then depended on the result between Westbury and Whitchurch as to whether Winslow
"A" would qualify for the final. Winslow "A" had a run rate of 87 after their pool games and Westbury were on 54 before their game against Whitchurch, which meant Westbury needed in excess of 250 runs to qualify - a tall order! Westbury managed to push their run rate up to
70, but this was not enough and for the first time in the clubs junior section history, Winslow had two teams in the final.
The final was played in quite a relaxed manner and the players were able to express themselves with some excellent all-round performances, being that
"Winslow" was going to win.
In the end Winslow "B" came out winners by some 30 runs. Both teams and supporting parents (of which yet again we had the greatest support) were a credit to themselves and Winslow Town Cricket Club. This can only bode well for the future - well done to all.

Dinner & Dance: Trophy
Presentations |
October 2004 |
|
|
|
Another enjoyable evening was had at the
Annual Dinner and Dance, held once again at Beales Hotel in Buckingham.
After a splendid meal, Chairman Dave Dale
and President Dave Rowlands conducted the trophy presentations. In
the order of how they were presented...
Paul Stolworthy collected the 2nd XI
Batting Cup (249 runs at an average of 35.57). Marcus Sales was a
close runner up with 301 runs at an average of 33.44. Kevin Saving
was the winner of the 2nd XI Bowling Cup (15 wickets at an average of
13.80), with Jamie Litherland (in his first season for the club) finishing
runner up with 14 wickets at an average of 16.71. The 2nd XI
Fielding Cup was collected by Dave Marshall.
In a fairly unique double, Paul
Stolworthy also collected the 1st XI Batting Cup (512 runs at an average
of 39.38). In close contention was Glyn Davies (556 runs at an
average of 34.75, and finished 7th in the League Batting averages).
Kieran Price amassed a very grand total of 824 runs in Sunday games, but
didn't quite have a sufficient number of innings to qualify.
Fenton Price was the winner of the 1st XI
Bowling Cup, taking 36 wickets at an average of 15.53. Pete Gibbard
was runner up, taking 25 wickets at an average of 19.04. Kevin
McAndrew retained the 1st XI Fielding Cup.
The Trophy for the Performance of the
Season went to Pete Gibbard who returned bowling figures of 10-5-10-6
against North Crawley on 15th May. Marcus Sales collected the Colts
Trophy, whilst the Presidents Trophy was once again presented to Dave
Dale.
The 2nd XI Player of the Season Cup was
awarded jointly to Marcus Sales and Dave Marshall, whilst Fenton Price
completed his hat-trick by being awarded the 1st XI Player of the Season
Trophy and the Players Player of the Year Trophy, an award voted for on
the night by all players in attendance.
In addition, Graham Eccles made a special
presentation to Dave Dale to thank him for his outstanding efforts on the
ground this year, and a collection from all the players bought a selection
of bottles of red wine for Dave.
Many thanks once again go to Pete Taylor
and all for organising the event.

Under 14s in County Final |
July 2004 |
|
|
Winslow Town Under 14s have reached the final of the Marlow Park Trophy which is the Bucks County Board Under 14 competition.
En-route the U14s notched up fine victories against Chenies & Latimer, Penn & Tylers Green, Great Kingshill and Ley Hill. Some fine individual efforts with bat and ball were seen in all matches but a combined team effort contributed to the eventual success.
In the final Winslow play against a strong Amersham side. The game is scheduled for Tuesday 20th July at Marlow Park with a 6.15pm start.
Unfortunately Amersham proved too good
on the day, beating Winslow by 7 wickets [match
report], but nevertheless this was an excellent achievement to reach a
County Final.

including a hat-trick.
The full scorecard and match report can
be viewed here.
Also, on the same evening (but a
different match), Simon Myatt returned excellent match figures of 3-3-0-6
against Ivinghoe & Pitstone Under 13s.

Success at Brill 6-a-side Tournament for
Junior Sides |
June 2004 |
|
|
|
Winslow Under 8's won their first tournament
on Sunday 27th June, beating Kimble in the final by 30 runs. All the boys taking part had to play their very best cricket to beat some very strong opposition, the squad was made up of Joel
Coxon, William Wrigley, Patrick Taylor, Dominic Comley, Ryan Freshwater, William Barker, Josh Gibbard and Jonathon Dale.
Winslow Under 10's played in a very close and exciting 6-a-side tournament
on the same day, eventually losing to Kimble by 1 run in the final. Everybody in the squad played their part, with everybody taking wickets, catches and batting magnificently. Squad members were James Barker, Alex O'Dell, Jonathon Piper, James Cook, Jake Derry, James Underwood and Ben
Cheal.

June 2004 |
|
|
|
Opening the batting against Buckingham Town
2nd XI on Sunday 27th June, Kieran Price broke the club's individual
batting record with a brilliant innings of 175, helping Winslow to a
comfortable victory.
This beats the current record of 158,
previously held by Fenton Price (we believe they're related).

Barbeque & Fun Night |
June 2004 |
|
|
In an effort to bring all club members and their families together at the same time, both Junior and Senior, we are holding a fun night at the club on Friday 25th June commencing 7.30pm.
The evening will comprise a barbeque with ten fun side stalls with prizes, maximum 25p per go, so that we can all have a laugh and a relaxing
Friday evening together.
Due to the large number of different age groups that the club run the committee are conscious that the club as a whole are not able to get together too often.
We do hope that you will be able to join us on what we hope will be a warm sunny evening.

New Club Record 8th Wicket Partnership |
June 2004 |
|
|
|
Glyn Davies and Fenton Price have smashed
the record 8th wicket partnership in the
league game away to New Bradwell on 29th May, with a superb unbeaten stand
of 137.
New Bradwell scored a total of 308, and
at one stage it looked like being an early finish until Price joined
Davies at the wicket, where they remained until the end of the drawn
match, with Winslow finishing on a respectable 206, gaining maximum
batting points.
The
previous record was 74 held by Nigel Norman and Neil Harries (Away to
Wendover), that has stood since June 1990.

Hat-trick Weekend |
July 2003 |
|
|
|
Although both first team games on Saturday
(19th July) and Sunday (20th July) ended up in a draw, it was a notable
weekend in that both matches contained hat-tricks from Winslow bowlers.
In the league game against Newport
Pagnell, skipper Pete Gibbard took three in three balls, though no one
(with the exception of our diligent scorer Corinne Price) noticed until
the innings had finished, owing to the hat-trick being spread out over two
overs.
Not to be outdone, on Sunday Kieran Price
had already bagged a couple of wickets coming up to the end of Long
Marston's innings, when he decided that tea was overdue and promptly took
a hat-trick to finish the innings, all clean bowled, to take his tally to
five wickets.

Winning Start |
April 2003 |
|
|
|
The Sunday side carried
on where they left off last year with a convincing win away to Little
Kingshill on Sunday 20th April.
Herbie top scored with
68 out of the total of 240, whilst Ben Galloni took the wickets of the
first three Little Kingshill batsmen in a reply which saw them fall 108
runs short of the Winslow total.

We intend to record scorecards and match
reports throughout the season - please keep checking the 2003
fixtures page for updates. Finally,
if you would like to submit scorecards / match reports, please let
us know. Update May 2003
- The Sunday and Midweek sides also got off to winning starts against
Littke Kingshill and Twyford respectively. |

Runs & Wickets Lottery |
March 2003 |
|
|
|
Some of you may recall
that shortly before the 2002 season, a 'Runs & Wickets' lottery
was run, where entrants could take a guess at the number of runs, wickets
and ducks accumulated throughout the season (for the senior weekend
teams).
All the numbers have now
been added up, and the totals are as follows:
| |
Runs |
Wickets |
Ducks |
| Saturday 1st |
2,772 |
145 |
10 |
| Saturday 2nd |
2,095 |

15 |
| Sunday |
3,089 |
123 |
11 |
|
Totals: |
7,956 |
379 |
36 |
The winners of
the big cash prizes are: Runs - Herbie, Wickets - Herbie,
Ducks - Pete Mid.
In compiling the
numbers, the statistics page has been updated
with match statistics for all three senior weekend teams.

Dinner & Dance Trophy
Presentations |
October 2002 |
|
|
|
With the season over, the annual Dinner
& Dance was held at the Bell Hotel on Saturday 12th October, and an
excellent time was had by all. A particularly good time was had by Glyn
Davies and Kieran Price who came away with a large share of the
silverware.
As well as taking away the 1st Team
Batting Cup and Player of the Season, Glyn also picked up the award for
performance of the season for his knock of 102 against Tring (Herbie was a
close second for his bowling figures of 6-34 against Drayton Parslow) and
finally he received the Players Player of the Season award, narrowly
beating Kieran Price.
Kieran emulated Glyn's feat for the
second team, taking the Batting Cup and Player of the Season for the
two's. For good measure, Kieran also picked up the Colts Trophy, though
young Adam Bone deserves a mention here for his fine efforts throughout
the season.
Confirmation of a fine season for the
club was backed up by the presentation of plates to both Glyn and Kieran
for scoring over a 1,000 runs each for the club this season, Glyn amassing
a remarkable 1,323 runs and Kieran notching up a grand total of 1,061
runs. It's always nice to see the opposition chasing the ball round the
park, and this year they did a lot of chasing.
The 1st Team and 2nd Team Bowling Cups
were won by Pete Gibbard and Fenton Price respectively, both bowlers never
giving much away and always picking up wickets along the way.
The Fielding Cup was retained by Kevin
McAndrew, and the Presidents Trophy was presented by Graham Eccles to Dave
Dale, for all his efforts this year as Chairman, in addition to the fine
work with the various Colts sides.
Thanks should go to Glyn Davies and
Graham Eccles who did a marvellous job of organising another successful
Dinner and Dance, pictures of which can be viewed by clicking here.
On a slightly different subject, the Club
Honours page has been updated to reflect the seasons achievements, as
has the Trophy
Holders page.

Both first and second teams finished the
league season on a high, with the first team gaining promotion to Division
1 as runners up, and the second team completing their excellent recovery
to finish up in 5th place in Division 4.
After 3rd placed promotion contenders
Walton & Simpson somehow managed to succeed in their appeal over a
cancelled game earlier in the season, Winslow found themselves moving down
a place to third place, meaning that in order to gain promotion, a win was
required, whilst hoping that our rivals didn't do the same.
Winslow went on to a comfortable win
against Drayton Parslow, and then it was all down to hoping that league
winners North Crawley held out against Walton and Simpson. Thanks go
to Dave Dale who provided a regular update of the other game throughout
the day - it all came down to Walton and Simpson needing 1 more wicket
with 1 over to go, and North Crawley held out! Confirmation of this
was greeted with scenes of grown men hugging, followed later on by much
drinking.
Meanwhile, the second eleven made light
work of their opponents Stewkley, with a fine 96 wicket win to finish the
season in 5th place. A full scorecard and match report can be found
on the fixtures pages.
From being in a position where relegation
was a real possibility, the second half of the season has seen a positive
run of results, and in the end 5th place was comfortable, narrowly missing
out by a few points on 4th spot.

Winslow lose out in Midweek League
Shield Final |
July 2002 |
|
|
|
Winslow narrowly lost out to Thornborough in
the final of the Midweek League Shield played at Great Horwood on Monday
(22nd July). Batting first, Thornborough were restricted to 109 from
their 15 overs, but in reply, Winslow lost early wickets. Although
never too far away from the required run rate, Winslow were eventually
bowled out for 104, 6 runs short of victory.
But on the same night, Winslow were
presented with the Buckingham and District Midweek League Division 1
Trophy - click here

Thanks to all those who came to Great
Horwood and cheered us on.

Midweek Success |
July 2002 |
|
|
|
Winslow have won the Buckingham Midweek
Cricket League after comfortably beating Thornborough at home on
Wednesday (17th July). Batting first, Winslow made 150 for 7 with
Graham Eccles hitting 71. Thornborough were then bowled out for 102,
with Paul Stolworthy taking 4 for 11, and Fenton Price chipped in with 3
for 16. Champagne then flowed shortly afterwards in the changing
room.
Skipper Glyn Davies will now lead Winslow
into the final of the League Shield competition, after beating Fringford
by 57 runs on Monday (15th July). Winslow will play Thornborough
again in the Final, to be played at Great Horwood on Monday 22nd July.
These wins follow the disappointment a
few weeks ago where Winslow lost out to Buckingham
Twyford in the final of the Advertiser Cup. The treble was not to
be, but the chance of the double still stands.

Although bad weather put paid to the
Second's game at home to Padbury on Saturday (18th May), the weather
didn't prevent the first's from producing a fine 65 run win away to
Eggington First's.
The following day, stand-in captain
Dermot 'Dodge' Callaghan led the Sunday side to it's 4th consecutive
victory, away to Stokenchurch, chasing a target of 245, Winslow reached
the target with the loss of 4 wickets.
Details of these results can be found in
the fixtures
pages, where you can also see details of some matches played by our
various youth sides, the most recent of which was a fine 8 wicket win by
the Under 15's against MK City last Thursday (16th May).
We hope to provide as many results,
scorecards and match reports as we can throughout the season, though many
of these will not appear in the news pages - please regularly check the
fixtures pages for the latest results.
